Specialization Course: WordPress

Time to level up? In this course you’ll dig deep into the platform that powers 1 of every 4 websites on the Internet.

In this course, you’ll learn the skills required to start a career in WordPress development by turning your own web pages into working WordPress themes, and finely customize both public pages and the editing experience for any kind of client and content.  You’ll learn to think like a developer and to build tailor-made WordPress sites for both public users and content managers.

Our WordPress course is held at Flywheel (420 S. 14th Street) — a managed WordPress hosting and software company based right here in downtown Omaha.

You’re about to take your knowledge of HTML and CSS up a notch by changing your static web pages into a dynamic WordPress theme! Basic JavaScript and programming fundamentals are applied as you learn not only how to accept, manage, and display user content with highly customized themes and templates, but also touch on security, performance, accessibility, design, and proper hosting environments. Finally, you’ll learn the ins and outs of how PHP and MySQL work together to form the core of WordPress so that you’ll be well prepared to build a fully customized WordPress website to fit any user or project.

We know how hard it can be to enter a new field after training, and the NCRC is an excellent (and free!) certification to help you stand out in the job search process. For those interested in getting job placement assistance through AIM Interface School, this certification must be obtained before placement services begin.

Students interested in taking this course should obtain a Gold level on the National Career Readiness Certificate. The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is a portable credential that indicates that you have the foundational workplace skills needed to succeed in this career path. The free, 3-hour assessment consists of three core tests: Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information.

You can find testing locations and upcoming dates as well as sign up for the free assessment here. Please have your scores for each section ready when you begin your application if possible.

This exam is required for potential students of any Interface School course unless:

  • You already work in the technology field, OR
  • You have 1 or more years of experience working in the technology field, OR
  • You will not be seeking placement support from Interface School.

You can inquire about whether or not you need to take this by emailing us here.

The tuition for this course includes your choice of either a Windows laptop or Macbook Air, which will be provided to you at least one week before the course begins and is yours to keep. If you already have a laptop you’d like to use, you’ll receive a discount of $1,000 from your tuition.

Why WordPress?

Featured WordPress Graduate: Melanie Krohn

Melanie KrohnMelanie is using the skills she gained from our Foundations + WordPress course in her current job at Bozell. She believes these skills have helped her become more flexible and overall better at doing her job. “Instead of having to ask our swamped dev team to change a tiny thing on a website, I can go in and adjust it myself – which allows me to get things done when I need them done for my clients and allows them to continue working on the bigger projects that are higher priority.” Read more about her story on our blog.
